Alisa Wairimu, a 13 year old high school student, was among the participants who registered for the grueling two day National Rafting Trials held at Rapids Camp, Sagana.
She was among the 56 athletes who turned up and actively took part in all three races: Sprint, RX (Raft Cross), and Slalom, earning admiration from judges and spectators alike.
“I started rafting at the age of seven after watching the sport on TV. I also get inspiration from my sister, who is the Kenya ladies’ team captain, and I am following in her footsteps,” said Alisa Wairimu.
The participants took part in six activities each day during the two day national trials.
“I have the passion and drive, and I believe in myself. My aim in the next five years is to be part of the national team and take part in an international event,” added Alisa Wairimu.
The selected Kenya Rafting team is composed of mostly young athletes with an average age of 22years.
