Paddle Worldwide has recommended and given the green light for the use of the Rapids Camp Sagana course for continental canoe competitions and athlete development activities.
The recommendation follows a visit by a technical team from Paddle Worldwide to the Rapids Camp Sagana course during the 2026 World Rafting Cup Series.
In a letter, Paddle Worldwide Africa & Europe Continental Manager Ali Hassan said he had assessed the facility and was impressed by its suitability for hosting international-level canoeing activities.
“During my visit, I had the opportunity to assess the whitewater course, event infrastructure, safety standards, accommodation, logistical arrangements and the overall organizational capacity of the venue. I am confident that Rapids Camp offers excellent conditions for the organization of continental Canoe Slalom competitions and athlete development.”
Rapids Camp Sagana is steadily emerging as a premier whitewater sports center in Africa, boasting world-class facilities. Its 280–300-metre technical whitewater course on the Tana River is increasingly gaining recognition and carving out a niche for itself in the watersports sector.
In June 2026, the Kenya Rafting Federation and Murang’a University signed a Memorandum of Understanding designating Rapids Camp Sagana as a whitewater training facility for watersports incorporated into the university’s curriculum.
Hassan further endorsed the continued development of the facility as a key Canoe Slalom venue on the continent.
“Based on my observations, I fully support the continued development of Rapids Camp as a key Canoe Slalom venue in Africa and recommend that the Ministry of Sports continues its valuable support for this initiative. I believe that investing in this project will contribute significantly to the growth of Canoe Slalom in Kenya and across the African continent,” added Hassan.
Rapids Camp Sagana has strengthened its credentials as an international-standard whitewater venue after hosting its first major international competition, the 2025 Africa Rafting Championships, followed by the 2026 World Rafting Cup Series—the first World Rafting Cup Series event to be held on the African continent.
