Kenya’s National Rafting Team won a total of 12 medals on the opening day of the Rafting World Cup Series, following impressive performances in the Sprint race held on Wednesday.
The competition, which also serves as the African Rafting Championships, saw Kenya’s men’s and women’s teams each claim bronze medals in the overall World Cup standings. The Kenyan men’s team clocked 1:35, finishing behind the Czech Republic, who recorded 1:30, while Italy took gold with a winning time of 1:28.
The Kenyan women’s team also impressed, posting a time of 1:52 to finish behind Russia (1:48), with Italy once again taking gold in 1:39.
Italy dominated the World Cup competition, topping the men’s, women’s, and para categories. Russia emerged victorious in the mixed category, while Kenya secured a commendable fourth-place finish.
In the African Championships, Kenya emerged as the overall champion with a dominant display across all categories. The Kenyan women completed a clean sweep by claiming the top five positions. The mixed team secured both gold and silver medals, while the men’s team swept the podium with gold, silver, and bronze. Kenya also won gold in the para category as the sole competing team.
A total of 18 countries and 61 teams are competing in the ongoing Rafting World Cup Series at Rapids Camp, Sagana, Murang’a County. Competition continues on Friday with the RX (Raft Cross) event, the second discipline of the championship.
